This KNX ceiling presence detector in black combines reliable PIR detection with brightness measurement as well as temperature, humidity and CO2 in one device, so that automations and controls can work directly from real room values.



  • 360° detection with four sectors: The presence detector function works with PIR technology in four separate detection sectors, each with adjustable sensitivity, allowing the response to be tailored to walkways, work areas and interference sources.
  • Large motion detection area up to Ø 30 m: For a mounting height of 2.7 m, tangential motion detection reaches up to Ø 30 m and radial up to Ø 20 m; at 4 m mounting height, tangential detection reaches Ø 25 m and radial Ø 16 m, while the presence zone is Ø 10 m.
  • Constant light and switching thresholds: Two channels for constant light control and several configurable presence channels allow either brightness control, switching by brightness threshold, or pure presence logic without dependency on light values.
  • Multisensor including CO2 control module: The device measures temperature, relative humidity and CO2 internally and also provides a CO2 controller module so that ventilation and air quality can be controlled directly according to ppm values.
  • KNX-TP with KNX Data Secure: As a KNX-TP1-256 device, it communicates directly on the bus and supports KNX Data Secure, which protects telegrams against manipulation and eavesdropping in suitable projects.

Detection and reporting functions

As a KNX presence detector for ceiling installation in black, the device covers 360° and divides detection into four sectors, each with separately adjustable sensitivity, which offers real advantages in open floor plans or rooms with clear zones such as workstations, walkways and door areas. For planning, the detection ranges depending on the mounting height are important: At 2.7 m height, the motion detection area is Ø 30 m tangentially and Ø 20 m radially; at 4 m height, this reduces to Ø 25 m tangential and Ø 16 m radial, because radial movements towards the sensor axis are generally harder to detect than tangential ones. For true presence in terms of small movements, the presence zone is specified as Ø 10 m; additionally, there is a maximum detection zone of Ø 6 m which is not influenced by the sensitivity configuration, which helps with robust basic detection directly below the detector. Six presence detector channels are available in the parameterisation, allowing multiple logics to be mapped in parallel, for example separate messages for lighting, shading, alarm or HVAC, without everything having to rely on a single presence object. For more complex logic, ten logic functions are integrated, so links, time conditions or simple evaluations can be implemented directly in the device if you want to reduce bus load or bring logic closer to the sensor.

Sensors for climate and air quality

Beyond mere presence detection, the multisensor provides internal measurements that are often crucial in KNX projects because they make automations more stable and can save additional individual devices. The temperature sensor measures from -10 °C to 60 °C with 0.1 °C resolution and an accuracy of ±0.8 °C at 25 °C, which is typically sufficient for room control and temperature monitoring in residential and commercial buildings. The humidity measurement covers 0 to 100 % RH, works with 1 % resolution and ±6 % RH accuracy, has a response time of 1 s and a drift of ±0.25 % per year in normal air, enabling precise humidity monitoring and ventilation-based logic such as dehumidification requirements or mould prevention. The CO2 sensor measures in the range of 400 to 2000 ppm with 10 ppm resolution and ±50 ppm accuracy as well as a drift of ±5 ppm over five years, allowing air quality indicators, ventilation stages or demand-based controls based on ppm thresholds to be realised; for accurate measurements, the room must be ventilated at least once a week because the sensor requires fresh outside air for referencing. In practice, this means it is sensible to plan minimum ventilation logic alongside comfort thresholds, so the system not only reacts to peak loads but maintains stable measurements over the long term.

Connection and KNX integration

The device operates entirely via the KNX bus and requires no external power supply, simplifying installation and making it easy to calculate typical line dimensions. The supply is typically 29 V DC SELV, with an allowable range of 21 to 31 V DC, and the maximum current consumption is 8.4 mA at 29 V DC or 10 mA at 24 V DC, allowing you to accurately include the line load in power supply planning. Connection to the bus is via the usual TP1 bus connector for 0.8 mm solid conductors, and the integrated KNX BCU (TP1-256) ensures direct, standard-compliant bus communication. For commissioning and service, there is a programming button and programming LED, with the display also signalling states such as the initialisation of the motion sensors and visualising sector detection with short light pulses, which helps when aligning zones during shell construction or changes in usage concepts. The two analogue or digital inputs are designed as dry contact inputs and operate with 3.3 V DC on the common; the input current is 1 mA per input, the terminals are screw terminals up to 0.2 Nm, conductor cross-section is 0.5 to 1 mm² and the maximum cable length is 30 m, allowing contacts, switches or compatible temperature sensors to be practically connected nearby without needing additional bus devices.

Planning and installation

For mechanical planning, the design, installation type and environmental conditions are decisive because presence detectors depend heavily on position and surroundings. The housing measures Ø 84 x 47 mm and weighs 66 g; the protection rating is IP20 for clean indoor environments, and the permissible operating range is 0 to +35 °C and 5 to 95 % humidity. Installation is possible both flush-mounted and surface-mounted, allowing the device to be fitted in suspended ceilings, concrete ceilings or situations without a suitable flush-mounted box without changing functionality. The four detection sectors assist positioning because you can avoid unnecessary telegrams triggered by movements outside the usable area, for example in adjacent corridors or at glass surfaces, by aligning and adjusting the individual sensitivity. For light automation, the combination of presence and brightness is particularly relevant: Two constant light channels are suitable for work areas with changing daylight, while switching logic based on brightness threshold is better if only a simple on-off reaction is desired, and pure presence logic remains sensible if the light value is too strongly influenced by other sensors or the position of the luminaires. For HVAC applications, the interplay of temperature, humidity and CO2 helps because it allows not only heating and cooling but also ventilation and comfort logic to be controlled according to actual usage and air quality without the need to mount separate sensors in visible areas.
