It looks like the USS Enterprise landed on your house wall – and it is just as intelligent: The THEBEN Meteodata 140 basic KNX is a high-tech weather station that not only measures wind, sun, and temperature but understands them. It turns your building into a smart spaceship that automatically reacts to any weather condition – without a captain on board.

  • Precise weather detection directly on the device: The Meteodata 140 basic KNX reliably measures wind speed, brightness, and temperature and evaluates the data directly in the device – without any additional external sensors.
  • Intelligent sunshade control: With three integrated brightness sensors, the weather station enables fully automatic control of blinds and awnings for up to three façades – ideal for energy-efficient sun protection.
  • Expandable KNX integration: Four additional threshold channels allow the integration of external KNX sensors, enabling flexible implementation of individual automation scenarios.
  • Powerful logic functions: Six integrated logic channels give you the possibility to realise complex control tasks directly in the device – without additional logic modules.
  • Robust design for outdoor use: With protection class IP44 and a temperature range from -20 °C to +55 °C, the weather station is perfectly suited for permanent outdoor use. Its transparent housing also makes it hardly noticeable.
  • Simple wall mounting & KNX compatibility: Installation is straightforward via wall mounting, and power supply runs directly via the KNX bus – efficient and space-saving.

The THEBEN Meteodata is more than just a weather station – it is the central sensory organ for your smart building. Once mounted on the façade, it takes over precise weather data detection and provides it in real time to your KNX system. This allows you not only to control blinds and awnings intelligently but also to automate heating, ventilation, or security functions – all without additional sensors.

Inside the compact housing, three brightness sensors work independently to detect light conditions on up to three façades. For example, you can regulate shading on the south side differently than on the east or west side – depending on the sun’s position and time of day. This not only increases comfort but also saves energy by avoiding unnecessary cooling or heating.

An integrated temperature sensor measures the outdoor temperature directly on the device. You can use this information to optimise heating or cooling processes or trigger warnings in case of frost risk. Wind monitoring is also included: the sensor reliably detects critical wind speeds and thus protects your external shading systems from damage – automatically and without your intervention.

Particularly exciting for technically savvy users: The Meteodata 140 basic KNX features six freely programmable logic channels. This allows complex control tasks to be realised directly in the device – for example, combining wind alarm, temperature limit, and time of day to trigger specific scenarios. You do not need any additional logic components in the system.

Four additional threshold channels enable you to integrate external KNX sensors and link their data with the weather information. This way, you can modularly expand your system and adapt it to individual requirements – whether in private smart homes or commercial applications.

Installation is very simple: the weather station is mounted on the wall and powered directly via the KNX bus. No separate power supply, no additional wiring – saving time and space in the distribution board. With protection class IP44 and a temperature range from -20 °C to +55 °C, the device is well equipped for permanent outdoor use.

Whether you are an experienced KNX programmer or just starting in the world of building automation – the Meteodata 140 offers you a reliable, versatile, and future-proof solution to make your building react intelligently to the weather.

Customer success story

Jurek and Kathrin had fulfilled their dream of owning a home on the edge of the Swabian Jura. With great attention to detail, they had built a modern architect-designed house – a light-flooded, open wooden house with large windows, electrically operated roof windows, and a spacious garden. But what sounded like a dream on paper turned out to be a weather nightmare in everyday life. Sudden gusts of wind, unexpected rain showers, and intense sunlight made controlling their shading systems a daily challenge.

In the first summer, they were surprised several times: a sudden rain shower during a shopping trip – and the roof windows were open. The result: wet floors, swollen wood, and an expensive replacement of a window frame. Shading was also a constant issue. The automatic control they had originally implemented with simple timers did not respond to actual weather conditions. On cloudy days, the blinds remained down, although there was enough light. And on hot days, they lowered too late – the living room heated up like a greenhouse.

After several frustrating attempts with individual components and weather apps, they decided on a professional solution: the Meteodata 140 S 24V GPS KNX from Theben. The decision was made not only because of the technical data but also because of the design – the futuristic housing immediately reminded Jurek of the Enterprise, which brought a broad grin to his face.

The installation was carried out by a KNX integrator who mounted the weather station on the west side of the house. Thanks to GPS, the device always knew its location – and could precisely calculate sun position, time of day, and direction. The three brightness sensors were aligned to the east, south, and west sides. Now the blinds no longer reacted according to the time but according to actual sunlight. In the morning, they opened gently to let daylight in; at midday, they automatically lowered when the sun became too strong – all depending on outdoor temperature and room occupancy.

The rain sensor was a real relief for Kathrin. The roof windows were now directly connected to the KNX system. As soon as the first drops fell, the weather station automatically closed the windows – even when they were away. No more hectic rushing back, no need to check the sky. And in strong wind? The awning retracted before it could be damaged.

Jurek was particularly impressed by the logic functions. He programmed his own scenarios: if wind exceeds 35 km/h, rain detected, or outdoor temperature below 12 °C – then windows close, blinds go up, and a push notification is sent to the smartphone. The Meteodata 140 S worked completely autonomously – no cloud, no app dependency, no delay.

Today, Jurek and Kathrin often talk about how much more relaxed their daily life has become. They no longer have to constantly watch the weather – their house does it for them. And every time they pass the weather station, they smile: "Looks like a spaceship – and thinks like one, too."
