The SONOFF ZBMINIR2 is a compact Zigbee switch actuator that transforms conventional light switches into smart control elements. With its small size, high compatibility, and stable wireless connection, it is ideal for retrofitting existing installations. The device supports Zigbee 3.0 and can be integrated into numerous smart home systems.

  • Model: ZBMINIR2
  • Power Supply: 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, max. 10 A
  • Maximum Load: 2400 W at 240 V
  • Wireless Standard: Zigbee 3.0
  • Dimensions: 39.5 x 33 x 16.8 mm
  • Housing Material: PC V0 (flame retardant)
  • Installation: Flush-mounted box
  • Temperature Range: –10 °C to +40 °C
  • Compatibility: eWeLink, SmartThings, Philips Hue, Amazon Echo, Home Assistant and more (Zigbee hub required)

The ZBMINIR2 was designed for easy integration into existing electrical installations. Its compact form fits into almost any flush-mounted box and can be installed directly behind a conventional light switch. Wiring is done via screw terminals, with a neutral conductor mandatory for the router. The device supports both rocker and push-button switches, and the mode can be easily changed.

Control is via Zigbee 3.0, making the switch actuator compatible with a wide range of gateways and platforms. These include, among others, the SONOFF Zigbee Bridge, NSPanel Pro, Amazon Echo with Zigbee, SmartThings, and other systems supporting the Zigbee 3.0 protocol. After integration, the switch can be controlled via app, voice assistant, or automation scenes. Additionally, the ZBMINIR2 acts as a Zigbee repeater, enhancing the range and stability of the network, especially in larger apartments or houses.

A special feature is the so-called "Detach Relay Mode." This allows the external switch to be operated without switching the relay inside the device. This means, for example, that a smart bulb remains permanently connected to the network even if the physical light switch is off. This function is particularly useful when using smart lighting that would lose connection during power outages.

The actuator also offers numerous automation functions. Through the eWeLink app, schedules, timers, and scenes can be defined. Group control and status queries are also possible. The firmware can be updated over-the-air (OTA), allowing future improvements and security updates to be installed directly. The green status LED indicates the connection status and assists with setup and troubleshooting.

The housing is made of flame-retardant plastic (PC V0) and is designed for use in dry indoor environments. The build quality is robust, and the device has been tested for over 100,000 switching cycles. The switch-on delay protects connected devices from voltage spikes when power is restored. This makes the device suitable not only for light control but also for small household appliances such as fans or coffee machines.

Overall, the SONOFF ZBMINIR2 is a well-thought-out solution for anyone wanting to smartly expand their existing electrical installation. It combines easy installation, high compatibility, and reliable Zigbee communication in a compact device. Support for external switches and the detach mode make it a versatile component for modern smart home systems.

Customer Reviews on the Product

Both models are appreciated by many users for their compact design and easy integration into Zigbee systems such as Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, or deCONZ. The ZBMINIL2 is especially convincing due to its ability to operate without a neutral conductor, making it ideal for older installations. The devices can be flexibly operated with push-buttons or switches and provide a good foundation for automations.

Regarding stability, users report predominantly reliable operation over extended periods. Occasional failures or connection drops do occur but are usually due to specific installation conditions such as metal housings, radio interference, or outdated firmware. Overall, the failure rate seems low – many users have multiple devices in use and report stable networks.

The ZBMINIR2 is additionally praised for its function as a Zigbee router, which can improve network coverage. There are occasional reports of timer issues after power outages, but these are mostly resolved through firmware updates or configuration adjustments.

Overall, both devices are considered solid choices for DIY smart home projects – with high satisfaction when properly installed and regularly maintained.
