Small, inconspicuous, and yet a real gamechanger for your smart home: the Sonoff SNZB03P reliably detects every movement and brings light, security, and comfort exactly when you need it. No cables, no hassle, but plenty of possibilities for clever automations.

  • Fast motion detection: Reacts in under five seconds to movements for immediate automations.
  • Zigbee 3.0 compatibility: Works with Home Assistant, NSPanel Pro, ZBDongle, and many other gateways.
  • Energy-efficient battery operation: CR2477 button cell with up to three years runtime under normal use.
  • Flexible mounting: Magnetic base, screws, or adhesive pad allow easy and discreet installation.
  • Smart home integration: Ideal for lighting, security, and comfort automations with local or cloud control.

If you want to make your home smarter without having to intervene in the building structure, the Sonoff SNZB03P is an excellent choice. This compact motion sensor works with the Zigbee 3.0 protocol and offers you a reliable way to detect movements and respond to them. It is ideal for automations that involve lighting, security, or energy efficiency.

The sensor detects movement using passive infrared technology. It registers temperature changes in the room caused by people or animals. The detection range is about six metres with an angle of around one hundred and ten degrees. This is enough to reliably detect movement in corridors, entrance areas, or smaller rooms. The response time is very short, so you hardly notice any delay when you enter a room and an action is triggered.

Power is supplied by a CR2477 button cell. This battery lasts several years with average use. So you don’t have to constantly remember to maintain the sensor or change the battery. The mounting is flexible. You can attach it with screws, position it with a magnetic base, or simply stick it on with an adhesive pad. This allows the sensor to be discreetly integrated into any environment.

It gets especially exciting when you connect the sensor to a Zigbee-enabled smart home system. It works with many gateways, including the Sonoff NSPanel Pro, the ZBDongle for Home Assistant, or the SmartThings Hub. If you use Home Assistant, you can integrate the sensor either via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT. Both options are stable and offer many possibilities for automation.

A typical example would be controlling lighting. You enter the corridor, the sensor detects the movement and switches on the light. After a certain time without movement, the light switches off again. You can adjust the delay individually. If you also use a brightness sensor, you can set up the automation so that the light only switches on in darkness. This saves energy and increases comfort.

The sensor is also suitable for security applications. You can configure it so that when movement is detected, a camera is activated, a notification is sent to your smartphone, or an acoustic signal sounds. These functions can be performed locally, so they work even if your internet connection is interrupted. This is a big advantage compared to purely cloud-based solutions.

If you use the sensor with a system like eWeLink, you can also include it in complex scenes. For example, you could create a scene where the light switches on, the music starts, and the heating turns up as soon as you leave the bedroom in the morning. The possibilities are almost unlimited, especially if you integrate other devices like smart plugs, light switches, or thermostats.

Another advantage is the high compatibility with voice assistants. You can control the sensor via Alexa or Google Home and include it in voice commands. This works especially well if you already use other devices from the Sonoff ecosystem. Setup is simple and supported by clear instructions. Integration into Home Assistant is also well documented and can be done with just a few clicks.

However, the sensor is not a presence detector. This means it does not detect movement if you are sitting still or hardly moving. For rooms like the living room or office, where you stay for longer periods, a presence sensor with microwave technology would be better suited. The SNZB03P is ideal for places where movement is the decisive criterion. These include corridors, stairwells, basements, storage rooms, or entrance areas.

If you distribute several sensors throughout the house, you can create complex automations. For example, you could build a scene where the light in a room only switches on if movement was previously detected in the corridor. This way you can recognise movement patterns and react specifically. This not only increases comfort but also security.

Communication via Zigbee has the advantage of being very energy-efficient and building a stable mesh network. Every sensor or actuator that is mains-powered can serve as a repeater and forward the signal. This allows you to reach distant rooms or difficult corners in the house. The latency is low and reliability high, especially if you use high-quality Zigbee devices.

In summary, the Sonoff SNZB03P offers you a powerful motion sensor that integrates seamlessly into your smart home. It is easy to install, versatile in use, and offers many possibilities for automation. Whether you are just starting out or already running a complex system, this sensor is a sensible addition to any smart home.
Example use case

You start your day before you are fully awake. The Sonoff SNZB03P detects your movement in the bedroom and activates a scene via Home Assistant that switches on the light in the corridor – controlled by an Aqara Zigbee LED lamp. At the same time, the coffee machine is started via the Meross Smart Plug MSS315. You don’t have to do anything; everything happens automatically.

In the bathroom, another SNZB03P ensures that the light and ventilation turn on as soon as you enter the room. The ventilation is controlled via an Aqara Single Switch Module T1, which is integrated directly into the wall socket. After leaving the room, everything switches off again – energy-saving and reliable.

As you leave the house, the sensor in the corridor recognises that no one is there anymore. Home Assistant activates the away mode. The heating is turned down via a Meross Smart Thermostat Valve, all lights go off, and the security automations are activated. An Aqara door and window sensor checks that everything is closed before the scene is fully executed.

In the afternoon, you come back. The SNZB03P at the entrance detects your movement, the light switches on, and the heating turns back on. The music starts via a connected speaker, and the ambient lighting is activated via a Sonoff Zigbee RGB lamp. You are welcomed without pressing a single button.

In the living room, another motion sensor ensures that when you enter, the light is dimmed, the TV is switched on via a Meross Smart Plug, and the blinds are lowered via an Aqara Curtain Driver E1. Everything is tailored to your evening routine.

Later, when you go to bed, the sensor in the corridor detects your movement and activates a gentle night light. In the children’s room, an SNZB03P ensures that a dimmed light comes on when there is movement at night – controlled via an Aqara LED lamp integrated via Zigbee2MQTT. This way, everyone can find their way safely without waking others.

And if there is water damage, an Aqara water sensor detects the leak immediately and shuts off the water supply via the Aqara Switch Module. You receive a notification and can react immediately.
