The Intesis KNX air conditioning gateway connects various types of air conditioning units with a KNX system. It is used where central control via KNX is desired, regardless of whether the air conditioner communicates via infrared, Modbus, or a proprietary interface. The gateway translates control commands and status messages between both systems, enabling full integration into building automation.

The control includes all important functions such as operating mode, target temperature, fan speed, and louvre position. These can be addressed via KNX communication objects and integrated into visualisations, logic, or scenes. The gateway also provides feedback, so the current status of the air conditioner is always visible in the KNX system. Compatibility with various manufacturers is ensured by an extensive database or specific communication protocols.

Setup is done via ETS software. Numerous communication objects are available there, which can be activated or adapted depending on project requirements. For many functions, there are multiple object variants, allowing flexible integration into existing KNX structures. Control can be carried out via buttons, touch panels, logic modules, or time programmes. Combining with other trades such as lighting or shading is also easily possible.

The gateway supports the definition and execution of scenes. These can either be stored in the device or triggered via KNX. This allows coordinated sequences to be realised, for example for comfort, eco, or night modes. Scene control can be linked with other functions in the building to create a holistic indoor climate.

Many models have additional inputs that can be used for external sensors or buttons. These inputs can also be configured via ETS and integrated into the KNX logic. Some variants also offer integrated temperature sensors, whose measurement values are directly available in the KNX system. This allows the air conditioner to react to the actual room temperature and not just preset values.

Installation depends on the respective model. IR-based gateways require line of sight to the air conditioner, while wired variants are connected directly to the device’s communication interface. Power supply is usually via the KNX bus; some models also allow external supply via USB or 24 volts. The devices are compact and intended for indoor use.

Visual indicators and KNX error objects are available for monitoring the operating status. These assist during commissioning and maintenance, as they can provide hints about communication problems or incorrect settings. This keeps the system clear and reliable even in complex installations.

The selection of datapoint types is wide-ranging. Suitable objects are available for every function, which can be integrated into existing KNX structures. Control can be via buttons, visualisations, or logic modules. This makes the device suitable for many applications – from private homes to hotels or office buildings where central air conditioning control is required.

Recording of operating times is also possible. The device can document how long the air conditioner was active. This information can be used for maintenance schedules or energy consumption analysis. Additionally, manual control via local operating elements can be disabled if full control via the KNX system is desired.

The Intesis KNX gateway offers a reliable way to integrate air conditioning units into the KNX world. It supports various communication types, is flexibly configurable, and offers functions that go beyond simple temperature control. This makes it a sensible addition for projects where comfort, efficiency, and central control are the focus.
