The GVS ARCD-04/16S KNX switching actuator with current measurement is a modular switching actuator for building automation that is directly integrated into KNX bus systems via the KNX-TP interface and controls four independent switching outputs, each with up to 16 A load current. The outputs are suitable for switching electrical consumers such as lighting, heating controls, or signalling devices. The compact design allows easy mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail in distribution cabinets.

Each output features manual local operation and status feedback that makes the switching state visible. Technically, the actuator supports various time functions such as on and off delays as well as staircase lighting functions with warning and definable lighting duration. The integrated scene control allows recall of preset switching states via 8-bit or 1-bit commands, enabling flexible integration into complex automation scenarios.

For automation, two logic functions per channel (AND, OR, XOR) and a gate function are available, allowing conditions and links to be processed directly within the device. This reduces the need for additional logic modules and enables practical control, for example, for safety-relevant processes or complex switching conditions. Threshold functions cause the outputs to respond to defined limit values, facilitating integration of measurement values into control processes.

Another special feature is the integrated current measurement per channel with a detection range from 90 mA to 16 A and an accuracy of ±5% plus ±20 mA. Additionally, the total current consumption of the device is recorded. These measurement values can be provided as communication objects within the KNX system, enabling monitoring of energy consumption, load management, or triggering of automatic functions when defined thresholds are exceeded. The current measurement also supports recording operating hours and switching cycles, which can be used for maintenance and analysis of system states.

The switching actuator supports control of electrothermal valve drives and offers extensive configuration options to define the output state after bus voltage failure and restoration. It can be set whether the outputs retain their last state, open, or close, increasing the safety and availability of the system. The outputs can also be inverted to accommodate different wiring situations.

Device communication takes place via KNX TP with KNX Data Secure, which protects telegram transmission against unauthorised eavesdropping and manipulation. Configuration and addressing are conveniently done via ETS software, with extensive settings available for time functions, logic, scenes, thresholds, security priorities, and current measurement. This allows precise implementation of individual requirements for control and monitoring functions.

The devices are designed for operation in distribution cabinets and feature protection functions against misuse and faults. Installation is carried out via screw terminals for load connections and a KNX bus terminal. The compact design with 4 TE width and low weight facilitates integration into standard distributors. LEDs and a programming button support commissioning and on-site diagnostics.

In practice, the GVS ARCD-04/16S enables direct and stable integration of switching functions with integrated current measurement into KNX systems, allowing transparent load monitoring and flexible automation with logic and scene functions. The safety features and definable fail-safe behaviour increase operational reliability, while the diverse parameterisation options ensure application-specific adaptation.
