The Enertex® KNX Smartmeter (4 TE DIN rail) is a bidirectional meter for measuring active and reactive energy and power, as well as for analysing network quality. The measurement is carried out either in a three-phase system or in three independent single-phase systems with accuracy class 1 (1%). In accuracy class 1 according to EN 62053-11, accuracy requirements are only specified for the measurement range between 2% and 100% of the nominal current. For smaller currents, no requirements are defined, as these cannot be accurately detected with conventional current transformers. In contrast, the Enertex Smartmeter uses highly precise (Rogowski) current sensors, which are calibrated to the device at the factory. This allows very small currents down to 0.002% of the nominal current (= 10 mA) to be measured precisely. In addition, the current measurement is particularly low-loss (< 2 mW loss). The supplied current sensors, which can be opened for easier installation, may be installed directly at the network feed-in point.

The Smartmeter is powered exclusively via the bus. Therefore, the device can measure currents and voltages even if no 230 V mains voltage is present at the voltage measurement inputs or the voltage has been switched off. The measurement range of the three-phase active power extends from 7.5 W to 293 kW. Energy values or measurement parameters for monitoring network quality are recorded in text form on an SD card for analysis. All measured values (current, voltage, active power, reactive power, active energy, reactive energy, power factor, THD-U, THD-I, network harmonics, unbalance, zero current, network frequency) are displayed on the KNX bus.

In addition to specialised functions for load control dependent on power, optimisation of own energy consumption with PV systems, calculation of usage or feed-in fees with tariff switching, and avoidance of load peaks, the ETS application also provides various monitoring functions. These report events such as voltage outages, high voltage spikes, high network distortion, high reactive energy consumption, strongly uneven loading of the three phases (unbalance), or high neutral conductor load on the bus when limit values are exceeded. For assessing network quality, harmonics up to the 50th order of current and voltage are measured. The numerous monitoring functions enable precise time analysis of network-related outages, disturbances, and damage to electrical equipment.

Alternatively, the KNX Smartmeter 630A can also be operated without a KNX bus. For this, a 24 V DC power supply must be connected to the KNX terminal. In this mode, all measurement data are recorded every minute on the SD card without the network harmonics. The recording times for the measured values in this mode are selected according to an internal battery-buffered clock, which is set at the factory to Berlin local time (UTC/GMT +1 hour) and deviates by a maximum of one minute per year from the actual time of day. The clock can be adjusted if necessary using the SD card.
