The LM5CLp2 from Embedded Systems is a compact yet powerful KNX server, ideal for demanding automation tasks. Inside, an efficient ARM processor works, offering significantly more computing power than earlier models. This allows even complex logics and visualisations to be executed without delay. The hardware is robust and designed for continuous operation, making it especially interesting for professional installations.

The connection options are diverse: Ethernet, USB, KNX TP1, RS485 and RS232 are available. These interfaces enable communication with a wide range of devices and systems. Power supply is via Power-over-Ethernet, simplifying installation and eliminating the need for additional power supplies. An automatic network check ensures that connection problems are detected early.

The LM5CLp2 supports numerous protocols, including KNX, Modbus RTU/TCP, BACnet/IP, DALI, EnOcean, DMX and M-Bus. This means the server can be integrated not only into classic KNX installations but also into systems from industrial and HVAC technology. Communication with cloud services such as Azure or AWS is also possible, paving the way for remote maintenance and IoT applications.

Configuration is done via a web-based interface that is easy to use on both desktop computers and mobile devices. The user interface is clearly structured, so even less experienced users can quickly find their way around. For professionals, advanced functions and interfaces are available, for example for app development or integration of external APIs.

Logic and automation: flexibility for every application

The logic engine of the LM5CLp2 is a central element for automation. It allows the creation of sequences based on time, events or states. Simple rules can be created via a graphical interface, while more complex scenarios can be programmed directly in Lua. Lua is a lightweight scripting language well suited for embedded systems and powerful enough to solve demanding tasks.

A typical example would be controlling outdoor lighting depending on the position of the sun and presence in the building. Such scenarios can be logically linked and also equipped with conditions such as wind speed or temperature. The logic can access internal data, sensor values or external sources such as weather services.

The engine also supports mathematical calculations, state machines and processing of JSON data. This makes it particularly suitable for applications where many parameters must be considered. The results of these logics can be directly incorporated into the visualisation or passed on as control commands to other systems.

For developers, the LM5CLp2 offers an open platform on which their own applications can be installed and maintained. Functions such as MQTT communication, REST interfaces or voice control via Siri and Google Assistant can be easily integrated. The app management is clear and also allows distribution of applications across multiple devices.

Visualisation and operation: clarity and control

The graphical interface of the LM5CLp2 is designed to be both functional and user-friendly. After logging in, a dashboard appears showing all important information and functions clearly. The interface can be customised, for example with own colours, icons or layouts. The language can also be freely chosen.

The visualisation allows the display of rooms, devices and scenes. Lighting, heating, blinds or security systems can be operated intuitively. The display is responsive, optimised for different screen sizes. This is especially practical when control is to be done via tablets or smartphones.

For data analysis, the LM5CLp2 offers an integrated logging system. Object values can be recorded over defined periods and displayed graphically. This allows consumption values to be analysed, trends to be recognised or sources of errors to be identified. Alarm messages and system events are also logged and can be exported if needed.

User management allows the setup of roles with different rights. For example, a technician can have full access to all functions, while a resident may only control certain areas such as lighting or temperature. Security is ensured by encrypted connections, VPN support and the option to install own certificates.

Areas of application and integration: from single-family home to commercial complex

The LM5CLp2 is versatile and suitable for both private and commercial applications. In the smart home, it takes over central control of lighting, heating, shading and security. Integration into voice control systems such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home or Amazon Alexa makes operation particularly convenient.

In larger buildings such as offices, hotels or industrial plants, the server can take on tasks such as energy management, room automation or access control. Support for protocols like BACnet and Modbus enables connection to HVAC systems, meters and industrial controls. Remote maintenance is also possible, so changes or updates can be carried out without on-site presence.

For system integrators and developers, the LM5CLp2 offers an open and documented platform. The combination of logic, visualisation and protocol diversity makes it a powerful tool for individual solutions. Whether as a data logger, control centre or visualisation server – the LM5CLp2 adapts flexibly to requirements and grows with the project.
